Elegant, antique andirons salvaged from Northeastern PA. Both the guards (fronts) and shanks (log holders) are cast iron. Originally, the guards were bronze plated, but most of the plating has worn off leaving them with a nice, distressed look.

Each guard has a traditional, Federal style design with curved legs, lovely paw feet, and a cannonball top. The shanks have a rare design. Normally, they are solid from front to back but these have rectangular openings which allow the fire to pass through and hit more of the wood and less of the iron.

At the point of salvage, the andirons were dirty and ashy. We disassembled them and wiped the guards with an oily rag and used steel wool on the shanks to remove the build up. There is some light rust on all parts, which could be removed with some fine steel wool, however, we feel that's part of the charm of buying old, used items so we left the rust. They are clean enough that you could just paint them or apply a clear ceramic coating to preserve their patina.

All parts are in great shape with no breaks, cracks, dents, gouges, or rot (deep corrosion).
