* Although there are 2 doors available, the list price is for 1 door only. If you are planning on buying only one door, please email us after the auction to let us know which door you'd like. The first 4 photos show Door#1, and the last 4 show Door#2
Charming, antique doors salvaged from an old, 1905, Craftsman Style Home outside of Philadelphia. The doors have a solid Douglas fir or pine core covered by 1/8" Birch veneers. The doors have 2 recessed (flat) panels on both sides. The doors are stained on both sides.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door.
Hardware: The doors are not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of hardware to outfit them (check out our eBay store).
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Condition: The doors are strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. They only have nicks and scratches, but no broken or cracked joints, gouges, rot, warp, or any other serious issues. The worst flaws on both doors is a small dent on the top panel of Door#1 (see 4th photo) and a small break on the lock housing on Door#2 (see last photo). Most of the blemishes that they have will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
Strip/Refinish: We could strip/refinish, or partially or completely strip the door(s) to prepare it/them for you to repaint or refinish. We have MANY photos of doors that we've restored that could give you an idea of how these doors could clean up. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Swing: Both doors are set up to swing into a room towards the left or away from a room towards the right. We could change the swing--message us for a quote.
Modification: We could also modify the door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace panels with glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
