Elegant, antique interior doors salvaged from an old home in Northeastern, PA. The doors are made of solid Douglas fir or pine and have 4 raised panels on both sides. Both of the doors are completely stained.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The doors have a Victorian style, 4-panel arrangement with 4 vertical panels. The panels are raised on both sides.
Hardware: Neither door comes equipped with hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware in our online store, and tons more in our physical store.
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Uneven Size: The sizes of both doors are unevenly cut:
Door#1:
Width: uneven by 1"
Height: uneven by 1/4"
Door#2:
Width: uneven by 1/4"
Height: uneven by 3/8"
The cuts were most likely made to accommodate a warped floor or sagging foundation. We could cut either door to an even height/width, or cut them narrower/shorter, or even build them up to be wider/taller--message us for a quote.
Condition: The doors are strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. They have nicks and scratches, but no broken or cracked joints, rot, warp, or any other serious issues. Door#1 has a break in the molding, an in-dent on the lock-stile, a cracked panel and minor scratches on the bottom, interior, lock-stile corner of the door (See 4th photo). Door#2 has a cracked panel (See last photo).
Expansion and contraction occurs naturally due to changes in temperature, and the crack in the panel of Door#1 is just a result of this process over the course of many years. It may sound funny, but when the panel expanded and reached its limits within their openings or frames; it was unable to stretch out any further, and ultimately cracked in the center to relieve its stress or tension.
Although it may seem like the doors have a lot of damage making them un-repairable, we are able to work on/make repairs of either door--message us for a quote
Most of the blemishes that the doors have will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
Modification: Do you want to make a pair using these 2 doors? Do you want to replace the panels with glass, screen/mesh, or something else? We could modify the doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could trim or add to the heights or widths, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
