28"x77"x1.75" Antique Vintage Old Reclaimed Salvaged Chestnut SOLID Wood Wooden Interior Door Panel
Gorgeous, antique, interior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. It has a core made of solid Douglas Fir and covered with 1/8" thick chestnut veneers.
Please don't think that "veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture, these veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door.
Also note that chestnut is a rare and valuable wood; it’s not commercially available due to the blight introduced between 1900 & 1908, which made the North American chestnut trees virtually extinct by 1940.
The door has a lovely, single, recessed (flat) panel on both sides and the door is completely stained and finished (no paint). It looks like the previous owner intended on refinishing the door and sanded everything but the panel and molding. The sanded portions are ready for primer if you're planning on painting, but if your planning on refinishing, they'll need a bit more sanding before you could apply stain.
Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit it (check out our store).
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Condition: The door is in excellent condition. It has nicks and scratches, but no warp, rot, or serious breaks or cracks.
The only issue the door has, is that some of the grain is raised on the upper portion of the panel on the exterior side (see last photo). Almost all flat panels are made of plywood, which is basically thin layers of wood glued together to form a sheet of wood. Sometimes these layers separate from each other and sometimes the outer layers peel. In this case, a portion of one of the outer layers peeled. These raised edges could be sanded down flat. It's not a problem, but we like to be upfront about any abnormalities a door has, just so there are no unpleasant surprises when you receive the door.
Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the doors to prepare any of them for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Swing: The door is set up to swing into the room towards the right or outwardly towards the left. However, we can modify it to swing in the opposite direction--email us for a quote.
Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace panels with glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
