* The first 4 photos show the door for sale, and the last 3 show the matching door that sold, and we fixe up for a customer. We included these 3 photos to show you how nicely the door for sale could clean up.
Elegant, antique, interior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine. The door has 6 raised panels and is painted white on both sides.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
Hardware: The door is equipped with hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store, and tons more in our physical store.
* If you would like small recesses for the pulls plugged with solid wood, email us for a quote.
Uneven Width: The width was unevenly cut by 5/8". The cut was most likely made to compensate for the home's settling foundation or a warped floor. We could cut it to an even height/width, cut it narrower and/or shorter, or even build it up to make it bigger--email us for a quote.
Condition: Some of the wood has termite damage. Luckily, due to the way that the door was constructed, we are able to simply "pull off" the bad strips of wood, and the wood that remains is good and usable. If you would plan on painting the door, the repairs would be much less technical and inexpensive. Let us know what you would like to do and we'll give you a quote for the work.
There are 5 gaps (3/16" - 1/8") between the rails and stiles. These are not serious issues and the door could still be installed and used for decades without the gaps widening. However, we could close the gaps using clamps and modern glue and some dowels (wooden joints)--message us for a quote.
Otherwise the door is strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. It only have nicks, scrapes, and scratches, but no breaks, deep cracks, rot, warp, or any other serious issues. . Most of the blemishes that the doors have will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
Strip/Refinish: We could strip/refinish, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. We have MANY photos of doors that we've restored that could give you an idea of how these doors could clean up. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Swing: The door is set up to swing into a room towards the left or away from a room towards the right. We could change the swing of either door--email us for a quote.
Modification: Do you want to replace the panels with glass, screen/mesh, or something else? We could modify the doors to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
