Beautiful, antique door salvaged from an old home in Dickson City, PA. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine and is painted on one side and unfinished on the other side.
Today, "pine" is known as a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The door has a window with old, pebbled, textured glass and 3 raised panels below on both sides. On the exterior side, the door has beautiful, applied molding around the window and panels
Hardware: The door isn't equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit it (check out the "Hardware" section of our store).
* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Quirks & Considerations:
There is a thin (1/16") gap between the lock stile and bottom rail (see 4th photo). This is not a serious issue and the door could still be installed and used for decades without the gap widening. However, we could close the gap using clamps and reinforce/secure the corner using modern glue and some dowels (wooden joints)--message us for a quote.
The door's height and width were unevenly cut by 3/8". The cuts were made most likely to compensate for a warped floor or sagging foundation. We could cut the door to an even height/width, cut it shorter/narrower, or even build it up to a larger size--message us for a quote.
Condition: The door must have sat along it's lock stile edge in some water for a long period of time, as the wood along that side has rotted away. Although this looks unrepairable, it's actually not that bad. As long as you plan on painting the door, the side could be cut and the rotted portion removed. Once there is a fresh side to work with, a new board could be added to that side to rebuild it. Please reference the last 5 photos to show you how it would look. In the end, the added wood would be indistinguishable from any other part of the door.
Otherwise, Most of the blemishes that it has will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".
All of the glass is also intact and in great shape with only subtle scratches.
Swing: The swing of the door is set up to swing into a house towards the left or away from the house towards the right. We could modify the door to swing in the opposite direction--message us for a quote.
Modification: We could modify the door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width,, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
