Beautiful, rare door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine and is painted on both sides.

Today, "pine" is known as a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine   hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees doesn't have the  same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that  old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much  harder and stronger than young  pine.

The door has a unique structure with cross-buck style panels and a cross-hatched window design. The panels are raised on both sides.

The door has 12 windows with old, glass and 4 panels below the glass (on both sides).

Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit it (check out our eBay store).

* If you would like any of the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.

Quirks & Considerations

The door has 2, thin (1/16" - 1/8") gaps (see last photo). This is not a  serious issue and the door can still be installed and used for decades without the gaps widening.  However, we could close the gaps using clamps and reinforce/secure the corners  using modern glue and some dowels (wooden joints)--message us for a quote.

The height of the door was unevenly cut by 1/4". The cuts were most likely made  to accommodate a warped floor or sagging foundation. We could cut   the door to an even 31 7/8", or cut it narrower/shorter, or even build it up to be wider/taller--message us for a quote.

Condition: The door is strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. It only has nicks and scratches, but no broken or cracked joints, gouges, warp, or any other serious issues.

The top panel has a split (see 4th photo).
Expansion and contraction occurs naturally due to changes in temperature, and  the cracks are just a result of this process over the course of many years. It  may sound funny, but when the panel expanded and reached its limits within its openings or frames; it was unable to stretch out any further, and ultimately cracked in the center to relieve their stress or tension.

There is a small break on one of the bottom piece of molding on the interior side (see 5th photo).

A small portion of the bottom edge of the door was sadly exposed to water and is rotten. We could cut off the rotted section and replace it with fresh, strong wood, reinforcing it with dowels to keep it secure for a lifetime--

Otherwise,
 m
ost of the blemishes that it has will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and  whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks".

All of the glass is in great condition with only subtle scratches.

Swing: The door is set up to swing into a home towards the left or away from the home  towards the right.
We could modify the door to swing in the opposite direction--message us for a quote.

Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could trim or add to the height or width, replace glass with screen, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small  description  of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
