33"x79"x1.75" Antique Vintage Old Oak Wood Wooden Exterior Entry Back Door Window
33"x79"x1.75" Antique Vintage Old Oak Wood Wooden Exterior Entry Back Door Window
Lovely, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old home in Central Connecticut. It has a solid Douglas Fir or pine core covered with 1/8" thick oak veneers. It has a single, half-length window and a single, recessed (flat) panel below.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, and soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The window doesn't have any glass. Unless we are personally delivering, I would recommend you source the glass locally to avoid having the glass break during shipping. Installing glass is very simple. If are going to deliver or if you don't mind the risk, email us to let us know what type of glass you'd like and we'll get you a quote.
Quirks & Considerations: The door was originally 36"W but was cut narrower to fit an odd-sized opening. The opening was also uneven, so the door was unevenly cut by 1/4". We could cut the door to an even 32 1/2" , cut it shorter/narrower, or even build it back up to 36" or wider--email us for a quote.
One piece of removable window molding is missing and the 8 pieces of molding from both sides of the panel were cut out to resemble the doors in the house where the door was to be installed. The panel is tight, but some molding should be added to ensure that it remains tight over time. You could get molding and install it yourself or we could make and install--email us for a quote.
Hardware: The door is not equipped with hardware. It has no hardware holes either so you could install your hardware wherever you like and also define the swing of the door.
Condition: Overall, the door is in great shape. It has the typical scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on a door this old.
There are a couple of spots where the veneer is bowed out slightly, and one or two places along the top where some is missing. The bowed veneer could be glued and if you're planning on painting, the spots where veneer is missing could be spackled/puttied. If you plan on staining, we could add veneer to where it's missing--email us for a quote.
Refinish/Repaint: We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish. See the last photos in this auction as an example of our work. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Modification: We could also modify this door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, replace glass, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
