* The last 2 photos show a similar door that we repaired, plugged, replaced glass, and refinished. We included these photos to give you an idea of how this door could look like with some work.
Gorgeous, antique, exterior door salvaged from an old, home in Northeastern PA. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir or pine, and is painted blue and white on the exterior side and brown on the interior side.
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The door has a single window with a large, beautiful, beveled glass lite. There is a decorative ledge with dental molding under the window on the exterior side. There is one panel above the window and 3 below; all are raised (not flat). Notice the lovely, acanthus leaf appliqué on the panel below the window on the exterior side--what a great accent!
On the front/exterior side, there are 2 long strips of molding and a wooden sweep at the bottom. These were added to the door to create a tighter seal with the frame, once the door is closed. This helped to reduce draft and cold from entering through the top, bottom, and sides of the door. The strip on the left side is missing. However, most people now-a-days don't use wooden weather seals (usually metal, rubber, or vinyl). The 3 remaining strips could be removed or we could make and add the missing strip--message us for a quote.
Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of hardware to outfit it (check out our store).
* If you would like the hardware holes plugged with solid wood, please email us for a quote.
Condition: The door is strong, sturdy, and in great structural condition. It only has nicks and scratches, but no rot, warp, or any other serious issues. Most of the blemishes that it has will disappear after sanding, prior to refinishing or repainting, and whatever remains will be subtle, "character marks."
The worst blemish the door has is a break on the side of the decorative ledge. We could patch the break with solid wood--message us for a quote.
The former owner had a dog who liked to look out of the window. After many years of reaching the window with her paws, the bottom piece of molding got scratched up (See last photo). The scratches should sand out or sand smooth; we could also replace it--message us for a quote.
All of the glass is intact and in great shape with only subtle scratches.
Swing: The door is set up to swing into a house towards the left and away from the house towards the right. However, we can modify it to swing in the opposite direction--message us for a quote.
Modification: We could also modify the door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
