2 available Antique Vintage Old Salvaged Reclaimed "Corbin" Exterior Entry Entrance Door Set SOLID Brass Handle Pull Knob Plate Lock Lockset

Each set includes all parts necessary to install and use: 1 brass handle w/thumb latch, 1 brass knob, 1 brass rosette, 1 brass thumbturn, 1 steel mortise lock with brass faceplate, 1 brass cylinder mortise (no key), 1 brass cylinder mortise plate, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, 2 steel bolts to install the handle, a 2-piece spindle to connect the knob, and 9 installation screws to fasten the lock and plates to the door. All brass parts are solid, heavy, thick, cast brass, not plated steel.

The exterior sides of the doors were painted brown and some of the paint got on the handle, mortise cylinder, and its plate. We wanted to see if we could remove the paint without removing the patina so we just cleaned the cylinder plates. Unfortunately, we removed most of the patina along with the paint so we left the handles and cylinders alone. You could see some brown paint on the tops of the handles.

Except for the 2 plates we cleaned, all parts have a beautiful, rich, dark, original patina. That's 130 years of tarnish! If you prefer a newer, cleaner look; the brass could be cleaned to a brilliant shine using "Brasso" and #0000 steel wool. The plates we cleaned will give you a better idea of the color of the brass under the paint and tarnish.

All parts have light scratches and small nicks here and there, which are typical for hardware this old. Otherwise, all parts are in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches.

About the lock: The lock is reversible and could accommodate the swing of any door.

Aside from locking the door the traditional way, by turning the key or thumbturn to extend the lower, deadbolt latch; the door could also be locked by pushing the top button on the faceplate, and unlocked by either pushing the bottom button or using a key. This freezes the upper, passage latch in its extended position, which makes it act like a secondary deadbolt. Once the latch is frozen, the door could only be opened by turning the knob on the interior side of the door, or by turning the key in the other direction on the exterior side of the door. This is a very convenient feature for the person inside of the room. No more locking and unlocking to let someone in. Simply turn the knob, open the door, let someone in, close the door and it's already locked. To disable the auto-lock feature, simply push the bottom button.

We opened, inspected, and applied grease on and around all internal parts of the mortise lock to facilitate its movement. It operates very well.
